E-Talk 1#: L'Insulte by Ziad Doueiri 0
“The writing of this film happened very quickly, because we knew the subject so well. When Yoel and I started to write it, it just flew very quickly. The reason for that is: we grew up in the civil war.”
In the first edition of Roffa Mon Amour E-Talks we presented the frequently discussed Oscar nominee and IFFR 2nd audience favorite L’insulte by Ziad Doueiri.
Following a trivial incident, a violent dispute occurs between Toni, a Christian from Lebanese origin and Yasser, a Palestinian Muslim. A long trial begins in which Palestinians and Lebanese Christians compete to a national level.
E-Talks #2: Lucky by John Carroll Lynch 1
“This story was created for Harry from Harry’s life. Harry was the only person we would have done the movie with, because it’s really based on him. The stories in the film that give you an idea who Lucky is are almost all biographical.”
In the second edition of Roffa Mon Amour E-Talks we present Lucky ; the first feature film of director turned actor John Carroll Lynch starring our super hero’s such as the late Harry Dean Stanton and David Lynch.
Having outlived and out-smoked all his peers Lucky finds himself at the precipice of life, thrust into a journey of self-exploration, leading towards that which is so often unattainable: enlightenment.
E-Talks #3: Djam by Tony Gatlif 2
In this third edition of Roffa Mon Amour E-Talks we present DJAM; the latest feature film of Tony Gatlif; one of our longtime hero’s whose work always evolves around the gipsy community, their history and culture, mostly the music.
DJAM, a young Greek woman, is sent to Istanbul by her uncle Kakourgos, a former sailor and passionate fan of Rebetiko, on a mission to find a rare engine part for their boat. There she meets Avril, 19, who came from France to volunteer with refugees but lost her wallet and ID. Djam takes Avril under her wing on the way to Mytilene-a journey made of music, encounters, sharing and hope.
E-Talks #4: The Cleaners by Hans Block & Moritz Riesewieck 3
“The final film was sent to companies [Google, Facebook, Youtube)] for a public statement and we offered them to put the statement in the movie: there was no response.”
In this 4th edition of Roffa Mon Amour E-Talks we present THE CLEANERS; the debut documentary of Hans Block & Moritz Riesewieck that offers a look into the shadowy underworld of the Internet.
ABOUT THE CLEANERS
Meet “the Cleaners” whose job is to delete “inappropriate” content off of the internet. A cleaner must observe and rate thousands of intense images every day, from war zone photography to pornography, leading to lasting psychological impacts. Yet underneath their work lies profound questions around what makes an image art or propaganda and what defines journalism.
