Caltha (2025)

Theater Rotterdam loves cinema just like us! Especially when created by local talents. Every month Roffa Mon Amour and Theater Rotterdam present a Short Film. We’re excited to announce the next title for the month of May! On 14, 17, and 18 May,  we’re going to screen Caltha (2025) by Isabel Legate. 

The vibrant yellow Caltha Palustris flower grows abundantly in the Biesbosch National Park in The Netherlands. This visceral short film takes the myth behind this flower, about a maiden named Caltha who yearned so badly for Apollo that she withered and turned into a flower, and turns it into a sweeping portrayal of desire. Exploring the impact of floods – both on literal and emotional level – Isabel Legate creates a sensory experience with striking colors over black-and-white imagery that captures the sensation of being washed away by something bigger than yourself.
